From May 19 – 25, America will be honoring those who devote themselves to saving lives. In Suffolk County, those men and women are volunteers, so please take time to express your appreciation to any EMTs you may know. Then visit the Suffolk’s Bravest Facebook page that week, post your feelings of support, and “Like” us to become a friend of Suffolk’s volunteer community

Brentwood Public Library’s own Celia Vollmer was honored as a Hometown Hero by TD Bank, for her American Red Cross volunteer work after Hurricane Sandy, at the Islanders’ game on April 16th. Her son, Charles Vollmer, (to her left) was on hand to share the special day with his mom. Mrs. Vollmer was Shelter Operations Manager at the Brentwood High School, then at Sachem High School, and continues client case work to this day.

Stamp Out Hunger with Island Harvest. This weekend Island Harvest is hosting a food drive on with the National Association of Letter Carriers to "STAMP OUT HUNGER"! All you need to do to help is leave a bag of non-perishable food by your mailbox for your mail carrier to pick up on MAY 11th.Island Harvest has been a wonderful partner with the American Red Cross Sandy Recovery efforts and now its time to give back to those who have helped us along the way. "Before Hurricane Sandy, nearly 300,000 Long Islanders struggled with hunger. After Sandy, the number of residents that do not have enough to eat has inevitably increased. To-date, thousands more are now struggling."
