2013 Town of Islip 'Stars of Tomorrow' Hot Talent Search The Town of Islip’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs along with Idol Makers, USA and Walk 97.5 FM have teamed up to bring a summer of amazing talent to your local towns starring you. Finalist selected weekly. All finalist are invited back to the final show to be held at Islip's Annual Apple Festival, where a sing off will determine a winner. All ages are welcome. Important Town Hall Meeting

Islip Town Planning Board meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 25th, 2013 at 7:30PM. The hearings will take place at Islip Town Hall located at 655 Main Street in Islip. Suffolk County Legislator Rick Montano wanted you to be aware of several important public hearings scheduled at Islip Town Hall that will directly impact the Brentwood and surrounding communities. Item #4. Saratoga Associates Comprehensive Plan Update to establish the Downtown Brentwood Development District, specifically focusing on the downtown area, and the Fifth Avenue corridor. Item #5. Real Estate Developer Engel Burman Group's application seeking change of zoning from Residence AAA District to the proposed Downtown Brentwood Development District (DDD), in order to construct 234 garden apartments, and approximately 10,000 square feet of retail space on the Knolls Farms site.

Town of Islip Cooling Centers

The centers open are the West Islip Senior Center, 90 Higbie Lane, West Islip; Clayton Street Senior Center, 555 Clayton Street, Central Islip; and Brentwood Senior Center, 16 Second Avenue, Brentwood. Town officials said the high temperatures will also lead to poor air quality, and residents with respiratory problems are encouraged to seek relief within the cooling centers. A toll free Air Quality Hotline — 800-535-1345 — has been established so residents can stay informed on the air quality situation.

SCPD Summer Youth Academy

The Suffolk County Youth Academy is available to students between 16-18 years old who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. Students are taught discipline, structure, and respect for themselves and others. The program will be held for week beginning August 19-23, 2013 between the hours of 9:00AM-3:00PM daily. Students will receive a summer uniform consisting of a cap, pants and shirt. Lunch will be provided each day. Thanks to County Executive Steve Bellone, NYS Assemblyman Phil Ramos, the Suffolk County Youth Bureau and SC PAL, scholarships will be provided to 24 disadvantaged students in underserved communities to participate at no cost to them.The application and registration documents are attached. The Town of Islip Prepares for Hurricane Season

The Town of Islip performed a hurricane drill this week aiding all departments to prepare for pending weather events in the 2013 season. Officials applied lessons learned from Superstorm Sandy, which struck Islip Town just seven months ago, as well as other experiences from significant weather events that have hit Islip in the past decades. June 1st marked the official start of the hurricane season and residents are asked to take necessary precautions to protect their families and property.
