Nominations Now Being Accepted for 2014 Black History Celebration

The Town of Islip is currently accepting nominations for the 2014 celebration of Black History. The Town of Islip will celebrate Black History in February by honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to the Islip community, and live or work in the Town of Islip. The forms and category list can be downloaded from our website by clicking here. Applications can be mailed to the Department of Parks & Recreation, Attn: C. Charchalis, 50 Irish Lane, East Islip, NY 11730, faxed to (631) 224-5316, or e-mailed to jgabriel@townofislip-ny.gov. In addition, a short biography, resume and letters of recommendation must be attached to the nomination form. Nominations must be received by Tuesday, January 7, 2014.

Brentwood Gardens Fourth Annual Holiday Party

Property Taxes Due by January 10, 2014

Islip Town Receiver of Taxes, Alexis Weik, has announced that her office, located at 40 Nassau Avenue, Islip, is accepting payment of 2013/2014 taxes. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the following exceptions: •We will be closed on December 24th, December 25th and January 1st. •On December 31th the office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon •On Friday, January 10th, the office will remain open until 7:00 p.m. Residents can save time by visiting the Town of Islip website and pay their taxes online or by mailing their tax payments. However, to avoid penalty, all payments must be postmarked BY THE POST OFFICE no later than January 10, 2014. For additional tax information, call 224-5580

Brentwood & East Brentwood Fire Department Elections

Vote Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the Main Fire House, 125 Fourth Street. Incumbent Michael Poveromo is being challenged by firefighter Edward Bright for a 5-year term. East Brentwood Fire Department Elections will be held at 26 Fulton Street. Incumbent Tate Reilly is running unopposed for a 5-year term. Voting for both elections take place from 1pm-9pm
