Fire Prevention Open House

Saturday, October 5th from 12Noon – 5:00PM the Brentwood Fire Department will host their annual Fire Prevention Open House that will be held at the main firehouse located at 125 Fourth Street in Brentwood. The Brentwood Fire Department was started in 1898 when local residents banded together to combat brush and forest fires that threatened their homes and farm land. On August 28, 1899, land was purchased from Mrs. Elvira S. Studley and the Brentwood Fire District was incorporated. The Department was first known as the Brentwood Hook and Ladder Company. Since then many courageous men and women from the Brentwood community have served and continue to serve as volunteers at the Brentwood Fire Department. These great groups of local Heroes are dedicated to the community and are ready at a moment’s notice to save your life and property no matter the cost.

Long Island Ducks 2013 Atlantic League Championsip Celebration

On Tuesday, October 1 at 6:00 p.m., join the back-to-back Atlantic League champion Long Island Ducks as they celebrate the 2013 Atlantic League Championship victory in the Duck Club restaurant and bar at Bethpage Ballpark. Ducks Founder and CEO Frank Boulton, President and General Manager Michael Pfaff, Manager Kevin Baez, designated hitter Ray Navarrete and shortstop Dan Lyons will be on hand to field questions from emcees Michael Polak and David Weiss as well as from fans. Video highlights from the Ducks’ Championship run will accompany the program as well. The Duck Club will feature a cash bar, while fans will also have the opportunity to enjoy light food offerings courtesy of Centerplate, the official concessions provider of the Ducks. Following the question and answer session, fans will be able to take pictures with the 2013 Atlantic League Championship trophy and receive autographs from players and coaches in attendance. In addition, Championship merchandise will be available for fans to purchase in an exclusive presale event.

Teatro Experimental Yerbabruja Annual Brentwood Cultural Street Festival!

We are putting the final touches on this year's annual Brentwood Cultural Street Festival, a free-admission, family friendly, rain-or-shine extravaganza, to be held on Sunday September 22 from noon to 6:00pm. The festival will be on Suffolk Avenue beginning at the Brentwood Road/Washington Avenue intersection and extending westward for 3 blocks to Monroe Avenue.

S.C. SPCA Annual Rabies Clinic

Suffolk County SPCA is hosting their annual Rabies Clinic at Town Hall on September 21st from 9am-3pm(655 Main Street in Islip). Residents can bring their dogs, cats, and ferrets, 4 months or older, to get free rabies vaccinations. A $10.00 donation is suggested but not required. The Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-a-Pet Center will be performing low-cost micro-chipping for $25.00 and the Town Clerk's office will be issuing dog licenses for $6.00. All dogs must be on leash, all cats and ferrets must be in carriers. Any aggressive animal should be muzzled.

The Caribbean Day Parade will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7th 2013 along Crooked Hill Road from 12:00pm-2:00pm.

MEET MERV

Meet MERV. Suffolk County recently announced the acquisition of MERV, their new Major Emergency Response Vehicle. Designed to transport mass casualties and aid in medical evacuations, the 42-foot-long MERV can accommodate 24 patients and attending medical personnel. It can also serve as an on-site triage facility, provide firefighter and EMS rehabilitation, and stay on station to provide medical support for long-term emergency incidents. In addition to enhancing the safety of Suffolk County residents during severe weather events or major disasters, MERV can be deployed to assist municipalities throughout New York State when the need arises. Suffolk County was part of MERV’s original design team, and funding for the $380,000 vehicle was provided by a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
