Suffolk County Police Department Safety Message
The following are snow safety tips all residents should keep in mind:
1) Only call 911 for true emergencies. 852-COPS should be used for non-emergencies requiring a police response but should not be used for roads needing plowing, power outages, etc.
2) We are advising all motorists to stay off the roadway. However, if you must drive, drive cautiously and maintain safe speeds and distances from other vehicles.
3) Clear all the snow and ice from your vehicles hood, roof, windows and lights before driving.
4) It's always a good idea to have an emergency kit in your vehicle.
5) Try and avoid parking your vehicle in the street to allow plows to clear roadways.
6) If you have elderly or disabled neighbors, check on them during the storm.
7) If you are shoveling your driveway, dress properly, take frequent breaks and keep yourself hydrated.
