Suffolk Executive Steve Levy today announced plans for a formal ceremony to respect and honor the memory, as well as celebrate the life, of those individuals lost on September 11, 2001. The event will take place at Suffolk County's 9/11 memorial, "Gardens of Remembrance", and is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2011.
This year's ceremony is taking place on September 9th out respect for those
who may want to participate in other memorial events being held across
Suffolk County and New York State over that weekend.
"This ceremony is for the families of those who perished on 9/11 and is the
county's way of saying that the thoughts and prayers of all Suffolk
residents will remain with them and their loved ones, always," said Levy.
The ceremony, which marks the 10th anniversary of these devastating attacks,
will be among the first of the official 9/11 services to be held this year
in New York State.
