Brentwood Train Station Solar "Power Lots"


The Suffolk Solar Carport Project at the Brentwood Train Station is near completion. The solar power generated from the carport will be delivered directly to LIPA's electric grid. The project will serve as a unique educational tool for users of the carports to get a first-hand look at how clean renewable energy is generated.

LEGISLATOR MONTANO IS COLLECTING SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR NEEDY CHILDREN


DONATIONS ARE NEEDED. SUPPLIES TO BENEFIT DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN ACROSS SUFFOLK COUNTY.

A group of local volunteers have organized a day full of fun, adventures, mystery, treasure hunting and learning for approximately 500 hundred needy children from across Suffolk County. The 5th Annual Back Pack Pirates Summer Fest will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2011 on Fire Island. Hundreds of backpacks have been ordered. Now donations of school supplies are needed to fill them up.

Invitations to the Back Pack Pirates event will be distributed to needy children ages 5 to 18 at homeless and domestic violence shelters, local parish outreaches, and to families at Department of Labor sites across Suffolk County.
“This will be a fun as well as an educational-enjoyable event for the kids. In the end they will walk away with a backpack filled with supplies they will need for the next school year. I encourage everyone to contribute.” Montano said.
The deadline for donations is Friday, August 1, 2010. Legislator Montano’s office, located at Courthouse Corporate Center, 320 Carleton Avenue, Suite 4300 in Central Islip, is accepting donations.

S E N I O R S U M M E R F E S T I V A L


Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy’s Office for the Aging will host its Senior Summer Festival on Tuesday, July 19 at Southaven County Park in Brookhaven from
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Rain date - July 20). This event is open to all residents age 60 and older. The day includes musical entertainment, light refreshments and informational displays from local businesses and non-profit agencies.Seniors are encouraged to bring a light snack and their favorite lawn chair to make sure they are comfortable throughout the day. There is no fee for seniors to attend. Large groups must register to attend. Registration forms must be returned before July 7, 2011. Seating is limited. Reservations will be made on a first come, first served basis.

Troop 25 and Venture Crew 25 Closing Court of Honor Ceremony

The Concerned parents of Troop 25 and Venture Crew 25 would like to invite you to
attend our very first Closing Court of Honor where our boys and girls will be
recognized for their achievements.

We are a boy run Troop and a youth run Venture Crew designed to build character,
learn lifelong skills, reinforce positive social behaviors, develop leadership
skills and teach responsible citizenship. We are encouraging our youth to take
pride in their community and to become involved in neighborhood events.

Our Boy Scout Troop was formed in July 2010. We started with 6 boys and grew to 24
at present. The boys are ages 11 to 17. We meet at SW Elementary on Wednesday
nights.

Our Venture Crew was formed in March 2011. The Venture Crew is open to boys and
girls fourteen to twenty years old. We are also part of the Community School at the
Freshman Center and meet every other Thursday night.

The celebration will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2010 at 7 pm

Steve Levy Sets Date for Tenth Anniversary 9/11 Ceremony in Suffolk

Suffolk Executive Steve Levy today announced plans for a formal ceremony to respect and honor the memory, as well as celebrate the life, of those individuals lost on September 11, 2001. The event will take place at Suffolk County's 9/11 memorial, "Gardens of Remembrance", and is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2011.

This year's ceremony is taking place on September 9th out respect for those
who may want to participate in other memorial events being held across
Suffolk County and New York State over that weekend.

"This ceremony is for the families of those who perished on 9/11 and is the
county's way of saying that the thoughts and prayers of all Suffolk
residents will remain with them and their loved ones, always," said Levy.

The ceremony, which marks the 10th anniversary of these devastating attacks,
will be among the first of the official 9/11 services to be held this year
in New York State.

Veteran's Stand Down Friday, April 29, 2011 at Suffolk Community College's Brentwood Campus from 10 a.m. to 2p.m. Over 150 volunteers will help guide veterans to programs and services associated with housing, employment, food, finances, and clothing.

Afterwards from 3:00-5:00 p.m.at the Brentwood Public Library
The American Red Cross and Suffolk County Youth Advisory Team is
preparing “Kid Kits” for children whose families have been displaced due to

Breakfast at the Brentwood Legion Ambulance located at 29 Third Avenue

It is our pleasure to inform you that on Thursday, March 10, 2011, the Brentwood
Community School at the Freshman Center will be hosting our First Annual Body, Mind,
and Soul Fair for our student body of over 1200, their families and community
residents. The focus of the day will be on holistic health, wellness and safety.
The fair will run from 6pm to 8pm for our parents and residents.

It is our hope that this health fair can serve as a motivation for our students and
their families to make healthy choices and to see our Community School as a place
for students, parents, and community residents to gather and obtain information and
services that promote health and learning.
