Town of Islip Holiday Fair

Saturday, December 01, 2012, 10:00am - 04:30pm More than 60 craft vendors will be displaying their handcrafted items at the Town of Islip Holiday Fair and are sure to please everyone on your shopping list. The Holiday Fair is open free to the public. Refreshments also are available for purchase. Later in the day, be sure to see Santa arrive in Islip at the “Santa Comes to Town” parade. The Parade kicks off at 2:00PM at Brookwood Hall, 50 Irish Lane in East Islip. Then travels down Main Street (Montauk Highway) in Islip to the reviewing stand at Town Hall West. The parade is co-sponsored by the Islip Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Islip. After the Parade, Santa will be available to sit with the children and hear all of their wishes for the upcoming Holiday! There will be an opportunity for parents to take their own photos of their children with Santa free of charge.

HERE COMES THE ANNUAL BRENTWOOD CULTURAL STREET FESTIVAL.
After playing a key role in saving the annual Puerto Rican/Hispanic Day Parade this past Summer, Teatro Experimental Yerbabruja is finalizing its production of this year's annual Brentwood Cultural Street Festival, a free-admission, rain or shine extravaganza, to be held on Sunday September 30 fro 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Suffolk Avenue beginning at the Brentwood Road/Washington Avenue intersection and extending westward for 3 blocks. In addition to exciting children's activities and tented art exhibits displaying works by some of our area's finest painters and other visual artists, the Festival will feature a steady stream of world-class, culturally diverse performing artists, including - TRACY HAMILTON DRUM CIRCLE for adults & children; bring your own drums/other percussion instruments such as tambourines, bells, rattles etc. (11:30-12:15) - Peruvian dance ensemble PERU ANDINO, featuring live musicians as well as dancers. LIBRARIANS ON THE RUN!

Brentwood Public Library Youth Services Librarians, Tara Kohles, Maggie Mazzolla, Kristin Brewi, Tracy Van Dyne and Myrna Velez, participated in the 5K Cookie Run sponsored by the Rotary Club of Brentwood on August 16. Their next race is the Smith Point Bridge 5K Run on Saturday, September 8 to show their support for the Community Library's Family Literacy Project and William Floyd High School Scholarship Fund. Tara Kohles, Maggie Mazzolla, and Kristen Brewi will be participating in this race.

LEGISLATOR MONTANO IS COLLECTING SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR NEEDY CHILDREN DONATIONS ARE NEEDED

Supplies to Benefit Disadvantaged Children Across Suffolk County A group of local volunteers have organized a day full of fun, adventures, and learning for approximately 500 hundred needy children from across Suffolk County. The 6th Annual Back Pack Pirates Summer Fest will be held Wednesday, August 15, 2012 on Fire Island. Hundreds of backpacks have been ordered. Now donations of school supplies are needed to fill them up. Invitations to the Back Pack Pirates event will be distributed to needy children ages 5 to 18 at homeless and domestic violence shelters, local parish outreaches, and to families at Department of Labor sites across Suffolk County. “This will be a fun as well as an educational-enjoyable event for the kids. In the end they will walk away with a backpack filled with supplies they will need for the next school year. I encourage everyone to contribute.” Montano said. Brentwood 46th Puerto Rican Hispanic Day Parade

The parade is in its 46th year and is the largest ethnic parade on Long Island. The parade is held every June, with 70 to 80 local groups marching down Fifth Avenue for the 2 1/2 hour parade. The parade will take place this year on Sunday, July 22. Assemblyman Ramos announced that the theme of this year’s parade is to honor local hispanic community pioneers, including the Adelante Association which has been providing services to Suffolk County residents since 1966.
